Paisley Abbey Church stands in the heart of the town, in a slight curve in the White Cart Water. A former cluniac monestry and founded in 1163, the Paisley Abbey is the 'Mother Church' of Paisley with a gift and coffee shop available.

Recently given a 4-star visitor attraction award from Visit Scotland, Paisley Museum has something for everyone to enjoy. The original Victorian architecture and the double-barrel vaulted ceilings are a sight in themselves. The Paisley Shawl Collection, recognised as a Collection of National Significance to Scotland, is also housed at the museum.

A hidden Paisley gem, the Coats Observatory is one of only four public observatories operating in the UK. A visit to the building, which also houses a planetarium, is a great experience with plenty of hands-on exhibits. There’s two telescopes for public use, an antique brass orrery (which is a working model of the solar system) as well as weather and earthquake measuring equipment. Check out the Observatory’s website for details of their ‘Sky at Night’ programme presented by entertaining and enthusiastic staff.

The town hall is an A listed building and regarded as one of the finest in Renfrewshire; it's also a very popular venue for large events and wedding reception. The town hall is a worthwhile detour whilst in Paisley town centre to enjoy the elegance of the Victorian pillared main hall with his magnificent golden chandeliers. You might also want to check out the impressive balcony of the Loggia which offers great views of Paisley Abbey.
