Area Director

Then we need you. We are looking for someone with drive and passion to be our new Area Director, leading our McGill’s Scotland West Business. This covers our operations in Inverclyde and Renfrewshire where our Group was founded, and now features one of the largest zero emission fleets in the country. You will oversee three depots and lead a team of 6 managers and 500 colleagues. 

This role comes with multi-departmental responsibility. You will be a key part of the Senior Management Team driving up our preference. We’d expect you to develop a talented and engaged team across the local operations, engineering and commercial functions. Irrespective of your background, we need you to have an entrepreneurial spirit, always looking for opportunities to grow and develop our company. This is a can-do business. 

You need to be a leader, communicator, team builder, decision maker and proactive thinker, working with the wider support functions to drive cultural change and standards within all departments you are responsible for against agreed KPIs considering efficiencies and delivering upon an agreed financial performance for your business. 

Who should apply? 

This role will require an experienced, organised and meticulous Senior Manager, who has operational or commercial expertise within the transport industry. We’d expect you to be hands-on and willing to get into the required detail needed to deliver a best-in-class bus company. You should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of leadership, and you should aspire to leave your mark permanently within our well-established but rapidly growing organisation.

What we need from you as our next Area Director…

  •  First-hand leadership experience of management at a senior level
  • A proven track record in managing people, processes and improving performance
  • Strong knowledge and a firm understanding of the bus industry
  • A sense of flexibility and wide understanding across multiple functions 
  • Sound financial acumen and a sense of commerciality: you’ll be expected to identify opportunities and have a keen focus on cost controls
  • Experience of communicating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, being able to demonstrate your influence in ensuring that standards and targets are achieved.
  • Have a passion for safety and continuous improvement, as well as being conversant with statutory requirements.
  • Conversant with industry compliance including DVSA regulations and HSE guidelines.
  • Hold a Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Passenger Transport).
  • You should be motivated to improve, and develop yourself and the team around you.
