Chief Engineer

We’re McGill’s. As the largest independent bus company in the UK, we aim to set the highest standards for our customers and colleagues, providing a fantastic level of service and a great place to work.  We run right across Scotland, with ten bases across the country and our main bus networks focussed in the West of Scotland, the Central Belt and Tayside.

Do you think you could play a key role in our continued commitment to engineering excellence?  Then we need you.  We are looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the day-to-day engineering function across McGill’s Bus Group, ensuring safety and legal compliance with all statutory regulations and company standards, working within agreed KPIs to deliver improved fleet availability and maximising cost efficiencies.  You’ll also carry out compliance audits of the group workshops and standards as well as demonstrating a culture of continuous improvement through the monitoring and managing information.

  • Good financial acumen and sense of commerciality: you’ll be expected to identify efficiencies, challenge budget controls and our procurement approach.
  • Experience of communicating with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, being able to demonstrate your influence in ensuring that standards and targets are achieved.
  • Have a passion for safety and continuous improvement, as well as being conversant with statutory requirements.
  • Fully conversant with DVSA regulations and HSE guidelines.
  • Hold a Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Passenger Transport).
  • Flexibility and determination: you should be motivated to improve, and develop yourself and the team around you.
