Are you an experienced Technical Engineer looking for a new challenge? Here at McGill’s, we are looking for a Group Technical Engineer to work within our engineering function as we drive technical change within the business and the industry. We currently have a fleet of over 120 electric PSV vehicles across the business with plans to increase our EV fleet. As a Group Technical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our mission to revolutionise public transportation. Your work will directly contribute to reducing our environmental impact, enhancing the reliability of our fleet, and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of millions of passengers who rely on us daily. So, what you will be doing:
- Lead and coordinate rapid response efforts for emergency vehicle repairs.
- Investigating component failures, determining root cause, and recommending solutions to prevent further failures.
- Analysing key data to determine trends and implement systems and procedures to reduce vehicle down time.
- Investigating MOT failures determining root cause and recommending solutions to prevent further failures.
- Liaising with suppliers on technical issues and programmes
- Track and report on fleet performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Leading the groups technical bulletin and instruction catalogue ensuring compliance and completion with both.
What do we need from you:
- A technical background with an interest in mechanical and electrical systems.
- We’re looking for someone that is inquisitive in nature, seeking out areas of improvement within the engineering function of the business.
- We’re looking for someone who can collaborate and engage with all types of people, including leadership teams.
- You’ll be a problem solver with strong judgement and planning abilities.
- Excellent communication skills are essential as once solutions are developed; they need to be made accessible to a range of audiences.
- You should have excellent IT skills to ensure quality analysis and reporting, with knowledge and experience of using Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Adept at managing your own time, working independently and as a team, and meeting deadlines in a fastmoving environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in an engineering discipline is desirable.
- Knowledge of automotive systems would be beneficial to the successful candidate.
- Due to the nature of the role, you’ll be visiting depots across our operational area, so a full UK driving licence is essential.
