Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an experienced and ambitious Engineering Manager to join our team at our site in Greenock. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who is experienced in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy vehicles and is now looking for the next step in their career – but without giving up the tools for good. As an Engineering Manager you’ll spend your time leading your team whilst still getting your hands on the tools, using your experience to mentor and help your team solve and repair mechanical issues.
You will be leading a dedicated and experienced team including mechanics, electricians, painters, coachbuilders, labourers and apprentices supporting, advising, and managing them to maintain and repair our modern fleet.
This is a key role within the Scotland West Team, and you will be responsible for KPI targets, your own engineering budget and spend, procurement, health and safety as well as vehicle. It goes without saying that we will support you during your journey to be a brilliant Engineering Manager - so if you need training, developing or just the input of the wider team we will be here for you.
Now to what we need from you as our next Engineering Manager:
· Bus/truck or heavy commercial experience is preferred - but let us know if you come from a different background
· People management won’t be new to you, leading a team is key to this role so experience of this is essential
· Have a passion for engineering and a laser focus on standards and quality
Key responsibilities include:
· Deliver both DVSA and company standards ensuring a focus on standards, quality, engineering performance and peak vehicle requirements
· Ensure all vehicle inspections are completed as per the company inspection programme and standards manual
· Audit and report defects found on vehicles that have undergone repaid as part of the audit process
· Maintain inspection records and report any issues to the Fleet Engineer
· Check vehicle history files and report anomalies in reports, vehicle inspection periods and repeat defects that are identified
· Ensure completion of inspection, defect, mileage, KPI, wages and audit reports using our in-house documents as part of the internal reporting process
· Efficiently allocate resources with a focus on budget adherence, ensuring that standards and safety are a focus while managing spend
· Support the Fleet Engineer in all aspects of business and engineering reporting, including preparation of board packs
· Keep up to date with current engineering, health, safety and environmental legislation and related best proactive in meeting roadworthiness standards
