McGill's Introduces New Renfrew Bridge Service to Connect Clydebank, Braehead and QEUH

Today Fri 3rd Jul 2026

A new bus service operating over the new Renfrew Bridge will connect Clydebank, Braehead and Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

McGill’s Buses is piloting the new Service 24, which will operate hourly from Monday to Saturday, starting on Monday 13 July. The full timetable is available on the McGill’s Buses website.

The service will make use of the new Renfrew Bridge, providing a new public transport link across the Clyde and improving connections between communities and key destinations on both sides of the river.

As Renfrew Bridge opens to allow vessels to pass along the River Clyde, there may be occasions when Service 24 is unable to cross the bridge. In those circumstances, buses may terminate on the south side of the bridge and will not serve Clydebank.

McGill’s Group has been in discussions with Renfrewshire Council, which operates the Renfrew Bridge Control, regarding access to live bridge-opening data that may affect services.

Passengers will be able to access live service information through the McGill’s Buses app and website.

Customers planning to use the new Service 24 are also advised to follow the Renfrew Bridge WhatsApp channel or check scheduled bridge openings on the Renfrewshire Council website, which will provide further information on times when the service may be affected.

When the bridge is unavailable, passengers can combine the 23 and 757 services to travel between Clydebank and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Colin Napier, Group Service Delivery Director at McGill’s Buses, said: “Service 24 is an exciting pilot which will create a new public transport connection across the Clyde, linking Clydebank, Braehead and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“The new Renfrew Bridge has the potential to significantly improve connectivity between communities on both sides of the river, and this pilot will help us assess passenger demand and the practical operation of the route.

“We recognise there will be some challenges, particularly during the summer months when bridge openings are expected to be more frequent to accommodate vessels including the Waverley. That means there may be occasions when buses are unable to cross the bridge and will have to terminate on the south side.

“We are working with Renfrewshire Council to ensure we have accurate information on bridge openings and will keep passengers updated through our app and website. We would encourage customers to check before travelling, particularly during the summer period.”

Denis Sweeney, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Travel Planning and Systems Manager, said: “We welcome the introduction of this new service, which will improve public transport links to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and strengthen connections between communities across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

“Better transport options help support access to healthcare services for our patients, visitors and staff, and we look forward to seeing the benefits this new route brings.”
