MCGILL’S TO INTRODUCE TEMPORARY SHUTTLE TO RECONNECT LARGS AND INVERCLYDE

McGill’s Buses is introducing a temporary bus service to help restore connections for passengers affected by storm damage to the A78 Shore Road between Largs and Skelmorlie.

The new 905 service will operate as a shuttle, connecting Largs with Greenock via Kilbirnie, Lochwinnoch and Linwood.

The arrangements follow significant damage caused by Storm Boelo on Sunday 25 October, when high winds, heavy rain and large waves overtopped the sea defences south of Skelmorlie. The storm caused widespread cracking and displacement of the road surface and washed away a section of the sea wall. The A78 between Largs and Skelmorlie remains closed to general traffic in both directions.

Passengers travelling from Largs towards Braehead and Glasgow will be able to take the 905 to Candren Road, Linwood, and transfer to the X7.

For journeys to Largs, passengers can take the X7 to Candren Road and change onto the 905 shuttle.

Passengers using the 901 or 906 can also travel to Braehead, change onto the X7 to Candren Road, and then connect with the 905 for onward travel to Largs.

The Clyde Flyer 901 and 906 services will continue to operate as normal between Glasgow and Wemyss Bay.

Colin Napier, Group Service Delivery Director, said: “We recognise the disruption this closure is causing for people who rely on our services to get to work, attend appointments, visit family and go about their daily lives.

“The temporary 905 shuttle will help reconnect Largs with Inverclyde, while the interchange at Linwood will provide an option for passengers travelling to and from Braehead and Glasgow.

“These journeys will involve changes for some passengers, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while the arrangements are put in place. Our focus is on providing a practical connection while the coastal road remains closed.”
