McGill's Nighbus fares to fall to £2 in boost for Glasgow's night-time economy

Today Thu 1st Oct 2026

McGill’s Buses is delighted to announce that its Glasgow NightBus services will now be included in the £2 bus fare cap - cutting the cost of getting home after a night out or a late shift by almost 65 per cent.

From tomorrow (Friday 2 October), passengers travelling on all six NightBus routes will pay no more than £2 for a single journey - a saving of £3.70 compared with the current standard fare of £5.70.

The move will make late-night travel more affordable for people enjoying Glasgow’s restaurants, bars, music venues and other attractions, alongside hospitality staff and other workers finishing their shifts in the early hours.

Since the bus fare cap came into force in the west of Scotland in early September, McGill’s has been working with Transport Scotland to ensure the NightBus service could be brought into the fare cap scheme to benefit late-night passengers.

McGill’s launched its NightBus network three years ago, providing safe, affordable and reliable late-night public transport across Glasgow and surrounding communities. It has proved exceptionally popular with customers and in 2024, was crowned Best Bus Service at the UK National Transport Awards.

Ralph Roberts, chairman of McGill’s Group, said: “Bringing NightBus into the £2 fare cap will save passengers £3.70 on our standard single fare, whether they are heading home from a gig, a night out with friends or a late shift.

“We launched NightBus in 2023 in response to concerns about the future of late-night bus services in and around Glasgow. Inclusion in the cap allows us to reduce fares while keeping the service commercially viable.

“We hope this will encourage more people to make NightBus part of their weekend plans. That would provide a welcome boost to Glasgow’s night-time economy, helping customers enjoy the city’s restaurants, bars and venues and supporting the staff who keep them running.”

McGill’s NightBus operates on Friday and Saturday nights, with six hourly routes connecting Glasgow city centre with communities including Paisley, Clydebank, Newton Mearns, Pollok, Drumchapel and Govan. Last departures are as late as 3.45am, depending on the route.

All types of concession cards can also be used on the night services.
