McGill’s rides to the rescue of St Columba’s School rugby fans

McGill’s Bus Group provided free transport to St Columba’s School pupils to cheer on their rugby team, winners of the U18 final at Murrayfield yesterday.

The St Columba's 1st XV rugby team won the Scottish Schools U18 Rugby Bowl Final at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Wednesday 4th December,  beating Queen Victoria School of Dunblane by 31 - 14.

The school was keen for as many pupils as possible to be able to show their support and attend the match, but with their award-winning pipe band and over 200 supporters to transport to Edinburgh, the logistics were difficult.

McGill’s came forward to ensure no-one missed out on the tremendous occasion.

Mick McLaughlin, Depute Rector of St Columba’s, said: “We are really grateful to McGill’s and the Easdale family for stepping in and ensuring that all those who wanted to support the team were able to be there. This win has been a long time coming – the last time the 1st XV reached the National Finals was in 2016, so this is a momentous day for the school. We are immensely proud of everything the team has achieved.”

The St Columba’s School Pipe Band were invited to perform on the pitch before the start of the match, making the day a superb Scottish celebration for everyone involved.

James Easdale commented: “We were delighted to help St Columba’s and it is fantastic that they have won the competition. Rugby is on a high at the moment in Scotland and it’s great to see the next generation coming forward.”
